AWS Direct Connect – Connection Types

1. Dedicated Connections

• 1 Gbps, 10 Gbps, or 100 Gbps fixed speeds.

• Provides a physical Ethernet port dedicated to a single customer.

• Ordered directly from AWS and provisioned in collaboration with an AWS Direct Connect Partner.

2. Hosted Connections

• Speeds from 50 Mbps up to 10 Gbps.

• Provisioned through AWS Direct Connect Partners.

• Scalable on demand (increase or decrease capacity).

• Fixed-size high-speed options: 1, 2, 5, 10 Gbps (availability depends on partner).

Key Points

• New Direct Connect connections often have lead times > 1 month.

• Dedicated = fixed capacity, AWS-initiated, exclusive port.

• Hosted = partner-managed, flexible capacity.
