AWS operates a large-scale, highly available, and fault-tolerant global infrastructure composed of:
- AWS Regions – Geographically separated areas containing multiple Availability Zones (AZs).
- AWS Availability Zones – Distinct, isolated locations within a Region, each with independent power, networking, and connectivity, designed for high availability.
- AWS Data Centers – Physical facilities hosting the servers, networking, and storage for AWS services.
- AWS Edge Locations / Points of Presence – Used to cache content closer to users to reduce latency, primarily for services like Amazon CloudFront.
